The Tryonota Volunteer Fire Department was formed in 1964 by a group of citizens from the community. Fred Lovelace was the first Fire Chief and Gene Weaver was the first Assistant Fire Chief. The current station was completed in 1971.
Many changes have occurred over the years. We now have two(2) stations. Station 1 is the main station located at 2577 Tryon Courthouse Rd. Station 2 is located at 707 Chestnut Ridge Church Rd. Our fire district is 42 square miles with a population of 5500. We respond to 100% of the calls we are dispatched to. Our apparatus includes 2 engines, 2 tankers, 1 rescue, 2 brush trucks and 1 squad.
We currently have 37 members on the roster, which includes 1 junior firefighter. Through much dedication and training, we are proud to have 30 FF 1's, 25 FF 2's, 16 RT's and 14 EMT's.
In 2006 we lowered our ISO rating to 7, which lowers the homeowners insurance premiums for our residents. In 2009, we became "Light Rescue" certified through the NCAREMS.
Our pledge to the community is to continue to provide the best services possible with competent and properly trained firefighters now and in the future.
